Covid-19 update: Our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with social distancing measures in place to keep our staff and adopters safe.

Our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing but you can still make an appointment to adopt or bring a dog to us. We’ve set up new processes to keep staff, visitors and adopters safe, including matching dogs with their new homes virtually and delivering dogs contact-free.

Local restrictions may affect our rehoming procedures, so please check the rules for your area: we’re not able to facilitate appointments or adoptions across different tiers, or anywhere there are travel restrictions.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

Winter is a gorgeous 18 month old Malamute, GSD crossbreed! He is a very active boy, who enjoys his exercise and using his brain. Whether he is exploring whilst out on walks or learning new things, Winter likes to keep occupied. He is a very intelligent, high energy dog, who will need to be kept busy and his mind stimulated or he will find his own entertainment.

Type of home needed

Winter is looking for an active ADULT ONLY home with no young visiting children. He will need a home with lots of time to dedicate to his exercise needs, as well as keeping his brain stimulated with calm activities. Winter would like a calm, predictable environment to minimise his frustration levels and will need to continue to improve his dog skills, by setting up calm introductions to polite tolerant dogs. He will need a large secure garden, so he has somewhere to have safe off lead playtime. Winter could potentially be left for 2-4 hours, but this will need to be built up very slowly.

More about me

Winter MUST be the only pet in the home, but owners must be prepared to continue socialising him slowly with other dogs. He is housetrained and has a fairly good level of basic obedience. He does have some ongoing training need, that will need to be continued in the home. Winter can be rehomed via our Handover at Home policy. To apply to rehome Winter please click on the 'Come and Meet Me' button below. Applications will close when we have found a suitable match.

In these unprecedented circumstances, we're doing everything we can to continue our vital work caring for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs. If you'd like to help, please make a donation. Your support means so much, now more than ever.

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Winter, who is based at Newbury (Berkshire). Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
