Ways to help rescue dogs by recycling

Recycling items that no longer spark joy can be a fantastic way to be kind to the planet and the dogs in our care

Recycling or donating common household items is a great way to raise donations for the dogs in our care. Even better, it can help towards reducing your carbon pawprint.

Here are some simple ways to recycle your unwanted items to help pooches and the planet.

Recycle at our charity shops

The best way to recycle your items is via our charity shops. When you donate your preloved items to our shops, they avoid landfills and raise pounds for our hounds instead.

We’ll get the best possible price for your kind donations, and 100% of the funds raised will go directly to helping us care for dogs in need.

Our shops find new homes for your preloved clothing, accessories, homeware, media and more. Check our accepted items list.

Each shop also has a Recycle4Charity drop-off box for used ink cartridges. Protect the environment and raise more funds for our pups by bringing your old ink cartridges when dropping off donations.

Recycle and help reduce your carbon pawprint

Recycle jewellery, watches and banknotes

With Recyclingforgoodcauses you can recycle your unwanted gold, silver, costume jewellery and watches. They even accept broken and damaged items like odd earrings, snapped chains or items with missing stones.

You can also recycle unwanted banknotes of any age or currency. Simply print off a free postage label and attach it to an envelope (no larger than A5 size) and we’ll receive a donation in return.

Recycle ink cartridges

Recycle4Charity

You can print off a free postage label to send your used printer ink cartridges for recycling in your own envelopes, and we’ll receive a donation when you select us as your chosen charity. They also provide collection boxes free of charge, ideal for offices that use ink cartridges (toner/laser not accepted).

The recycling factory

Seemingly useless things like used ink cartridges can raise money to help us continue our vital work when you select us as your chosen charity through The Recycling Factory.

Order a free collection box and when you've got at least 50 used cartridges, just take it to the post office.

Recycle your old car

GiveACar, the UK’s largest scrap car and vehicle donation service organises the free collection and recycling of any vehicle in the UK.

Cars are either disposed of, the value of the scrap metal is donated or placed into an auction, and the sale price donated.

Recycle your mobile phone, cameras and other gadgets

Have you got old mobile phones and gadgets gathering dust in a drawer? Why not turn them into donations for dogs? Just send them to Recyclingforgoodcauses at the address below (postage costs will apply):

Recycle stamps

Even used stamps can be turned into donations to support or work. All you need to do is carefully cut or rip stamps from used envelopes (be careful not to damage the stamp) and collect them. Once you’ve got enough to fill an envelope, send them to Recyclingforgoodcauses at the address below (postage costs will apply):

Alternatively, stamps can be sent to our London office at 'Re: Stamp donations, Dogs Trust, 17 Wakley Street, London, EC1V 7RQ'.

Recycle Clothes

If you’re not lucky enough to have one of our charity shops in your area, you can still support us by donating your clothes to Donate Clothes UK or We Recycle Clothes. When you select us as your chosen charity while ordering a collection of your unwanted clothes, we’ll receive a donation on your behalf.
