Covid-19 update: our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing, but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with measures in place to keep staff and adopters safe. Find out more about how national Covid-19 restrictions are affecting our rehoming procedures and other activity.

Our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with new processes in place to keep staff, visitors and adopters safe.

For dogs we know will thrive straight away in their new home, we’re matching them with their new homes virtually and delivering them contact-free. Current restrictions mean we can only facilitate adoptions local to our centres and not across Countries or anywhere there are travel restrictions. We’re not able to make appointments for dogs to meet their family before going home, but we can register interest to arrange appointments when restrictions ease.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

Thank you for your interest in Oscar, we have stopped taking applications. Oscar is a handsome 1 year old Terrier mix. He enjoys being active and requires significant mental stimulation to keep him occupied - recommended activities will include scent games, play and puzzle feeders.

Type of home needed

Oscar is looking for an adult only home with no other pets. He has potential to settle in a quiet home environment however initially it may be beneficial to use gates to promote a calm, settling area for him. Oscar is quick to learn and would excel at fun activities such as scent work or agility. He loves to sniff and explore hedgerows and long grass making rural footpaths and fields ideal for walking him. Oscar can be anxious around new people initially and prefers to build a bond by engaging in games using treats or toys rather than being stroked and cuddled.

More about me

Oscar will need a very quiet home with limited visitors and new owners that are prepared to follow our training programmes in keeping oscar as calm as possible, both in the home and on walks, and be patient while he settles in which could take a long time. Applicants need to live with an hour's drive of the centre.

In these unprecedented circumstances, we're doing everything we can to continue our vital work caring for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs. If you'd like to help, please make a donation. Your support means so much, now more than ever.

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Oscar, who is based at Newbury (Berkshire). Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
