Billy is an adorable three-year-old Bulldog who is full of character. When Billy is happy and calm, he is extremely affectionate and loving. Billy sometimes enjoys playing with toys. He can be a bit of a worrier when it comes to new people and noises, (such as hoovers, garden machinery, motorbikes, and planes etc) He is short-sighted which can affect his behaviour so he needs reassurance and adopters who will be on board with following the training program that we have put in place for him. Billy loves to go for walks with calm, friendly dogs, but he can be wary of dogs running up to him. Long hikes are definitely not his thing! He gets tired quickly, and in the summer, he gets very hot and loves to chill out in the stream. Billy will require short walks on flat ground and may need a ramp for the car. Due to his medical condition, he cannot wear a harness and will therefore require a crate in the car or to go in the boot behind a dog guard. His love for food knows no bounds (but because of his spondylosis, care will be needed to prevent him from becoming overweight). He knows a 'sit', 'paw', 'down' and 'wait' and performs these tricks with such enthusiasm for treats. Despite some challenges, Billy has a wonderful cheeky character and is a joy to spend time with. We are hopeful that once he is in a loving home, his happy, bouncy, playful nature will shine through!
Type of home needed
Billy is looking for a patient, understanding and loving home. He has history of being uncomfortable with men, and therefore may be best suited to a single female home. He will need a home with no visiting children. Billy would benefit from having calm, friendly doggie pals to go for walks with, but he is looking to be the only dog in the home. Billy is looking for a home without too many visitors and any visitors to the home will need to be carefully managed. He will need a home in a quiet location where he does not have to worry about seeing people pass the house. He would like a home with a garden and with very limited steps. Billy will not cope in an area where there are low flying planes or helicopters. He is looking for a home without cats, small furries could possibly be ok, but no birds in the home. Experience and knowledge of the breed is highly beneficial. Potential adopters will need to visit the centre multiple times to meet Billy and we will take Billy for a few visits to the home before adoption and therefore we ask that potential adopters live within an hour of the centre to accommodate this.
