Kindness is always fashionable
People often say to us, it must be so sad to see so many ‘unwanted dogs’, but looking around our Rehoming Centre the overwhelming feeling I get, and I know this is shared by others, is one of happiness. We are happy because we are able to offer support to hundreds of amazing dogs every year, happy because we know these dogs are safe with us until they find their forever homes, and happy because we meet people every day who go out of their way to make this all possible.
This month recognises National Kindness Day (Monday 13th November), and it seemed a perfect excuse to get to the keyboard and try and tell you how grateful we are for everything you do to help us. From Brownie bake sales, to wild people who jump out of planes for sponsorship, no matter how little or large the donations we receive, they are invaluable to our work. And, incredibly, a third of our income actually comes from legacies. The ultimate gift of kindness.
We witness kindness every day from members of the public who ‘just pop in’ with a tin of food, order something amazing from our Amazon wish list, or make a donation in memory of a loved one. We work alongside our massive team of volunteers who are kind enough to give up their time to foster dogs, or to get mucky and work their socks off to make sure the kennels are sparkling clean and the dogs are exercised. And, we meet incredible dogs who, despite their rough start in life, are still willing to love unconditionally. Never has it been better demonstrated that…“Real kindness seeks no return”.
So on behalf of everyone here at the Rehoming Centre, my two legged colleagues, and our fabulous four legged residents, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you do, we wouldn’t be here without you.
