Our resident teddy bear!
This week we’ve been getting to know one of our bigger residents here in Leeds. His name is Charlie and he is a 4 year old Akita Cross.
At first glance you might think he’s a big brute of a dog, however he is the softest lad at heart. He loves nothing more than snuggling up with you and being lavished with love and attention. He is friends with everyone he meets and when he knows you properly he will quite literally be your best friend forever. Sadly he’s had a lot of upheaval in his life and we really want to ensure that his next move is his last.
He isn’t fussed for other dogs and prefers to stay away from them. When he’s out and about he is manageable around them and is fine as long as they’re not too close or in his face. In order to keep him safe he has been doing some muzzle training and he’s doing great with this.
He has a real love of training since he’s such a smart boy, and as he loves his food so much he will always show off his tricks if you reward him with something tasty.
He walks really nicely on lead most of the time! If he sniffs something he wants to investigate then you’ll need to hold on tight because he is very strong.
You can see in the video below what a fantastic companion he will make in the right home.
He will need to be the only pet in an adult only home with people who are physically strong enough to handle him out and about. You will need to have a passion for training and be prepared to work with our Training and Behaviour team during his transition. The plan we’ve put together at the centre is working really well so we’re keen for him to keep going on the right tracks.
So if you are looking for a big snuggle buddy who will be a very loyal and loving companion then get in touch with Dogs Trust Leeds now, or find out more about his requirements here:
