Gorgeous George gets a good groom!

We had a visit this week from one of our Foster Dogs who required a little spruce up!

George, a 10 year old Cocker Spaniel, was brought to us recently after being found as a stray. The poor lad is blind so the experience of being abandoned will have been very traumatic for him.

We immediately placed him in one of our foster homes where he could receive some extra TLC and relax with all his home comforts.

Due to him being left to roam the streets his coat was in bad condition. He looked rather overgrown and had quite few deep matted areas.

Due to the level of matting it was decided that the best thing to do was to give him a good groom to remove all the matted fur and he can then grow it back properly.

Once he arrived, we let him explore our grooming room so he had time to get used to where he was and then began desensitising him to the sounds and feel of the clippers. Since we didn’t want to startle or worry him, we did this very slowly. We believe he must have been groomed regularly in his previous life as he seemed to know what the sounds were and showed no concern about what was happening.

We kept providing him with tasty treats throughout which certainly kept him happy!

During the grooming we found many matted areas and lots of overgrown fur, particularly around his feet. Once this was all removed you could immediately see the relief in him. His little tail didn’t stop wagging!

Take a look at the video below and you can see just how amazing he was.

So now he’s all set to find his forever home and if you think you could be the special someone that George is looking for you can find out more about him on his profile page.
