Dogs Trust

UPDATE: Our rehoming centres are closed until further notice, however we are now able to rehome a small number of our amazing dogs. Each dog’s profile will let you know if they are looking for a new home. For the time-being, we are unable to register your interest for dogs who are not yet available for rehoming.

No more sleepless nights for Aussie and Anita!

Aussie, a Labrador cross, is celebrating his one-year anniversary in his forever home, after spending three and a half years at Dogs Trust West London. Not only has Aussie settled in wonderfully but his presence has also had an unexpected health benefit to his new owner. Having suffered from insomnia for many years and explored several different treatments, Anita has seen a huge improvement in her sleep patterns since sleeping next to Aussie.

Commenting on the miraculous change in both her own and Aussie’s wellbeing since their union, Anita said:

“No doctor ever prescribed a dog for my insomnia, but Aussie has been the best medicine the world had to offer – who would have thought it!? I can hardly believe almost a year has passed since Aussie's adoption date after he’d spent three and a half years waiting patiently for a new home, bless his paws!"

“Aussie struggled with kennel life and so it was always going to be a challenging adjustment to life in a home. Fortunately, being a highly intelligent boy, he was quick to train and has become part of the family and makes every day much more special, from waking me up with a smile and wagging his tail to playing intelligence games, which he is superb at!"

“The training provided by the staff at Dog's Trust West London was vital for me to learn how to read Aussie’s body language and distract Aussie from negative stimuli. There have been some tough days but over time, with consistent praise and reward, Aussie has learnt how to relax, trusting that he is safe, secure and dearly loved!"

“Overall, the transformation in Aussie from the nervous, anxious boy I was introduced to last summer, to the cuddly, funny, cheeky, playful and super relaxed boy he is today, is simply a miracle! Adopting Aussie was one of the happiest and most memorable days of my life and I am so proud the progress he has made in such a relatively short time. Aussie's true personality is finally shining through and watching him grow is a joy to behold! Life simply wouldn't be the same without him!”

Dogs Trust London Rehoming Centre Manager Richard Moore said:

“Finding the perfect home for any dog always fills you with a joy, reminding you why you do what you do. But when some of your longest-term dogs find their forever homes, it really is a special day for everyone. The staff ensure that all of the dogs in our care get lots of TLC, training and love, but the team really went the extra mile for Aussie as they desperately wanted him to find a loving home, which makes it even more heart-warming that we are here celebrating Aussie’s gotcha day a whole year on!”
