Long term dogs looking for longtime love
Dogs Trust Glasgow is appealing to dog lovers to help find homes for 23 long term residents, who are hoping to find their ‘special someone’ after spending a combined 30 years in kennels.
Whilst most of the dogs the rehoming centre cares for each year find their forever homes quickly, others find themselves overlooked by visitors, often because they may have specific requirements or need a little more TLC than their easy-going counterparts.
Thankfully, Dogs Trust never puts a healthy dog to sleep, and will care for a dog for as long as it takes them to find their forever homes. One such dog is twelve-year-old crossbreed Pele who first arrived at Dogs Trust in 2010. Staff ensure they spend time training, walking and socialising dogs like Pele but know that nothing beats the joy of being part of a loving, family home. The rehoming centre is now appealing for a unique type of person who is eager to take on dog who may need a little more training or support to offer a loving home to Pele and the 22 other long term dogs.
Sandra Lawton, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow says,
“We see dogs of all shapes, and sizes here at Dogs Trust Glasgow and whilst many of them fly out of the doors, others take a wee while longer to find their perfect match. It goes without saying that puppies and cute, fluffy breeds will usually find a home quickly. Similarly a confident dog who approaches the front of his kennel wagging his tail or trying to lick or sniff their hands when people walk past, will get rehomed far faster than a shy dog who needs a few meet and greets before making sure his new owners are the right fit.”
“Our longer terms dogs are all very special to us and we hope we can find an extra special person willing to give them a second chance at life in a home environment. Ideally, we are looking for people who have owned dogs before, and can be around for most of the day to devote time to building up a bond with their new four-legged friends. Each of our longer term dogs has so much love to give and while it may take them a little bit of time to settle into home life, they will love you all the more for giving them the love and attention they deserve.”
