First rescue puppies of 2020 go to their forever homes from Dogs Trust Darlington
A rescue dog who was found straying and heavily pregnant, has been recuperating at Dogs Trust Darlington and her puppies are ready to go to their forever homes.
Six-year-old Lurcher Phoenix gave birth to an astonishing 11 puppies, after it was originally thought she was only carrying three. The puppies were all named after herbs and spices, with the girls called: Chilli, Paprika, Nutmeg, Saffron; and the boys named: Dill, Pepper, Sage, Ginger, Mint, Sesame, Basil.
Last year Dogs Trust Darlington successfully rehomed 626 dogs, despite the rehoming centre currently undergoing a redevelopment, which is due for completion in July this year. The newly refurbished centre is set to boast even more kennels and facilities to support dog welfare.
Sue Embleton, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Darlington, said:
“They say variety is the spice of life and right now we have a variety of little herbs and spices, all having now found families to give them a chance as part of a happy home.
“We are very fortunate to have so many dedicated supporters that have helped make the Darlington centre’s refurbishment happen, including players of People’s Postcode Lottery, whose funding has formed a significant contribution. On its completion, it will include a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pool where dogs can be aided in recovery if they have undergone surgery or have long-term mobility problems. There will also be a new training and play area where dogs can spend valuable time with their designated canine carers.
“We can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store and look forward to helping even more dogs find their forever homes.”
Six years ago, People’s Postcode Lottery set out to support Dogs Trust in their vision to improve the dog welfare landscape in the UK and have a lasting impact for millions of dogs, including the thousands of dogs the charity cares for each year through its network of rehoming centres across the UK.
