Our sensory enrichment garden

We are very lucky to have the amazing sensory Garden here at our Harefield Rehoming Centre.

Our sensory garden is a great place for the dogs to get their noses close to the ground, explore a different environment and run around off lead in a safe area. The garden makes up one of our nine outdoor compounds, which are a great way to expose our dogs (especially those who have not had much life experience) to new environments with various terrains in order to prepare them for the outside world when they get adopted into their forever home. The various compounds include AstroTurf, sand, grass, woodland areas, concrete and more.

A great place to do dog meets, mixing and socialisation, the garden has got a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy and explore.

Dogs Trust Harefield sensory garden

Our garden includes tyres, tunnels, wild planting, inclined areas and our very own waterfall area for the dogs to play in. There are a rich variety of plants in the area for stimulation and, not only that, it is also a great place to partake in sniff and search games with our residents.

The sensory garden opened at Harefield in late 2010 in coordination with the Blue Peter team. The waterfall area inside was a later addition, money was donated to us in memory of Gavin Lee Puddifoot from his family.

Our dogs have absolutely loved the area over the years, and it has become one of the firm favourite places to explore. On hot days, the dogs love jumping in and out of the water to cool down before shaking off onto our wonderful canine carers.
