Are you right for Eddie?

Looking for a loyal, low-key companion who just wants a peaceful life and a bit of love? Then Eddie, our sweet 7-year-old Terrier, might just be the perfect fit. With his endearing nature and gentle soul, Eddie is hoping to find a calm, understanding home where he can feel safe, take things at his own pace, and finally enjoy the quiet retirement he deserves. Eddie’s ideal home will be in a quieter location, away from busy roads and fast-moving traffic—he is reactive to vehicles and needs peaceful walking routes where he can relax and sniff to his heart’s content. He can live with calm and sensible children aged 14+, who will understand when Eddie needs space. He must be the only dog in the home, but he can enjoy polite doggy friendships on walks. Eddie would love someone who is home a lot of the time but, once settled, he can be left for a couple of hours, gradually building up to around four hours. He is friendly with visitors and has a lovely way of forming bonds, but he does need time and patience to help him settle in and feel secure.

Is Eddie right for you?

Eddie is a sweet-natured, quirky little gent who just needs the right people to believe in him. Life in kennels has been difficult for him—he struggles with stress and has not been eating well—but once he knows you, he is incredibly affectionate, especially if you offer a good bum scratch. He loves playing with his toys and once settled into a foster environment he is eating better and a lot more happier to play and relax, but what really matters to him is connection, consistency, and kindness. He builds trust surprisingly quickly with the right approach and has made lovely progress with handlers here. He has allowed us to clip on his harness, wear a collar attachment in the kennel, and enjoys short bursts of fuss—particularly butt scritches. He is worried by formal handling in stressful situations, and it is essential that his future family is comfortable with muzzle training. He must always be muzzled for vet visits and grooming, and any formal handling should be minimal, predictable, and only once a solid relationship is built. He is not currently housetrained in kennels, but he was clean in the home previously. He knows “sit”, but his training around vet handling and general confidence will need continuing. He enjoys exploring new places and is generally unfazed by other dogs, even when they are reactive around him. Eddie travels best in the back seat of a car rather than the boot—he can be vocal and a bit fidgety, so car training and safe travel arrangements will be important. He is not keen on joggers, cyclists, or being picked up, so his adopters will need to be understanding of his boundaries and focused on building trust through gentle, hands-off approaches.
