Greyhound Racing - Now
Where are we now
We would like to see the welfare of Racing Greyhounds Regulations 2010 taken further. The industry is effectively self-regulated and we have concerns regarding the lack of transparency in relation to figures on injury statistics and the number of dogs put to sleep (PTS) for both economic and welfare purposes. The 2010 regulations centred on issues at the track, creating a massive loophole for breeders and trainers, as a greyhound approximately spends just 10% of its working life at the track.
We are looking forward to the 2015 review of the Welfare of Racing Greyhounds Regulations and hope it will provide an opportunity for future Governments to building upon the existing proposals and developing stronger regulations to protect greyhounds both on and off the track.
