Covid-19 update: Our rehoming centres in England will be closed to the public until lockdown lifts in early December. We’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with increased social distancing measures in place to keep our staff and adopters safe.

Bone-appetite this Halloween!

Its all treats and no tricks this Halloween for a group of frightfully cute pups who have all been rehomed thanks to Dogs Trust Glasgow!

This group of Yorkshire Terrier puppies came into our care when their mum, Coco, gave her owners a scare with an unplanned pregnancy! As they didn’t want to keep the litter, they contacted Dogs Trust Glasgow who arranged for Coco to be looked after by a foster carer during the final stage of her pregnancy. She was cared for whilst she had the pups and once she had fully recovered and the puppies were big enough to be without their mum, she returned home to her family.

The pups Imelda, Hector, Miguel and Ernesto – named after characters from the Disney film Coco, have all found the pawfect new homes, right in time for Halloween.

Leanne Mitchell, who adopted Imelda (now named Mabel Imelda), says “our two eldest – Caleb who’s 11 and Dylan, who’s 9 years old – had asked us about getting a dog for ages but we wanted to wait for the time to be right for our whole family before we committed to getting a puppy”. After changing careers to more flexible hours and her husband working from home for the next few years, they can ensure there’s always someone around to look after and spend time with their new puppy. Now their own little ones are older, they can help take more responsibility in looking after the newest pawfect addition to their family.

Leanne told her children “that if a puppy came up for adoption at Dogs Trust Glasgow then we would apply, and we feel incredibly lucky to get Mabel Imelda. The boys were very emotional when we told them about her and my three-year-old Millie just kept saying ‘I cannae wait’, she was so excited for her to arrive!”

Sarah Downie, our Glasgow Rehoming Centre manager wants to send a huge thank you “to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, whose support helps to fund a wonderful team of Canine Carers at the centre who are there to care for all of our dogs – young and old – and make sure they enjoy their time spent with us while they wait for their new family to discover them.”.
