Improving greyhound welfare

Greyhound resting on sofa

The current English law on greyhound welfare only covers what happens at the track.

We’re calling for improvements to the law. We want it to include all stages of racing greyhounds’ lives from birth to retirement. We also want to see the introduction of a levy on bookmakers to fund greyhound welfare.

Discover how we're urging all UK governments improve their laws.

Greyhound welfare review

We have long campaigned for the protection of racing greyhounds. At the peak of greyhound racing’s popularity, it is estimated that thousands of dogs were simply disappearing each year. Whilst things have improved there is still more to do.

We have recently commissioned a review of racing greyhound welfare in the UK which will report in the first half of 2022.
