Dangerous Dogs - Now

Where are we now

Dogs Trust is encouraged by the Government’s commitment to improving dog control legislation but does not believe that the existing measures go far enough in tackling the various problems surrounding irresponsible ownership. We believe that one of the biggest failures of the Dangerous Dogs Act is the breed specific element. There has not been a reduction in the number of banned dogs in the UK since breed specific legislation came in and has done nothing to reduce the number of dog attacks.

Dogs Trust takes the view that a dog’s behaviour is based more on how it is brought up rather than anything to do with its genetic background.  We firmly believe in the concept of Deed not Breed and would like to see an emphasis on tackling the actions of irresponsible owners of all breeds of dogs.
