Greyhound welfare review

The RSPCA and Dogs Trust have worked on the issue of greyhound welfare for a number of years and have raised many different areas of concern during this time.

Both organisations are members of the UK Greyhound Forum which engages with the greyhound industry to encourage improvements to welfare for these dogs. The forum has achieved important improvements through engaging with the industry but despite this work, there remain significant welfare issues which urgently need tackling to ensure that welfare is adequately safeguarded. We have recently commissioned a review of racing greyhound welfare in the UK which will report in the first half of 2022.

The review will be undertaken by an independent agency, with input from independent animal welfare experts, which we hope will allow us to take an evidence-based position. The findings will shape each organisation’s future policy.
