Recipe: How to make dog friendly cakes

Read our handy list of dog-friendly recipes. They’re quick, easy and sure to be a new furball favourite.

Before you begin…
When making our recipes, reduce your dog’s usual food portion so they’re not overfed. Some dogs could have sensitivities to the ingredients, so these might not be suitable for all pooches. If you’re concerned about giving your dog new foods, speak to your vet.

Ready, set, bark! 

Dog-friendly cupcakes recipe

First up, our peanut butter cupcakes (or rather, pup-cakes…) are super quick and easy for an extra special snack. Whatever the occasion – birthday, adoption anniversary, or just peanut butter day – foodie pooches are sure to love them.
 

You’ll need:

  • 125ml of sunflower or olive oil
  • 150ml of honey
  • 140g of peanut butter (make sure it’s xylitol-free)
  • 2 eggs (whisked)
  • 240g of whole wheat flour (sifted)
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 225g of carrots (grated)
     

What to do:

  1. pre-heat oven to 180°C
  2. combine oil, honey, peanut butter (xylitol-free) and whisked eggs in a bowl. Mix well
  3. add the flour and baking soda then mix
  4. add the carrots and mix
  5. spoon the mixture into a muffin tray — regular or mini, depending on the size of your pooch
  6. bake for 20-25 minutes
  7. once out of the oven, let them cool for 10 minutes before giving them to your dog
  8. finish off by topping with extra peanut butter and other dog-friendly toppings of your choice. We’ve added strawberry and banana slices!

Dog-friendly pancakes recipe

A recipe that won’t fall flat. Try our pooch-friendly pancakes for a special treat your dog will flippin' love. Perfect for Pancake Day, celebrations or as a training reward. We really give a crệpe about pancakes, and so will they.    

You’ll need:

  • 50g plain flour
  • 1 egg
  • 100 ml water
  • optional: toppings like xylitol-free peanut butter


What to do:

  1. put ingredients into a bowl and whisk well
  2. pour the mixture into a squeezy bottle with a thin nozzle
  3. heat a frying pan to a medium temperature
  4. using the squeezy bottle, draw the outline of a bone or paw
  5. then fill it in with more mixture
  6. cook for 30 seconds on each side
  7. add toppings of your choice and serve. 

Easy-bake banana paws recipe

Whether they’re a cheeky monkey or teacher’s pet, your furball will wiggle their behind for these pooch-friendly banana biscuit bites. Ideal for those cosy afternoons snuggling on the sofa, or as a picnic nibble on woodland walkies.  
 

You’ll need:

  • 1 banana
  • 2 eggs
  • 240g wholewheat flour
  • ½ cup water
     

What to do:

  1. preheat oven to 200°C
  2. chop the banana, then mash it  
  3. crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk
  4. add all the ingredients together  
  5. mix to create a dough
  6. roll dough out to 1cm thick
  7. cut into shapes using a cookie cutter
  8. space evenly on a baking sheet  
  9. bake for 18-20 minutes
  10. leave to cool (and let the wagging begin).
