Are you right for Teddy?

If you are looking for a fun, quirky companion who enjoys life at his own pace, Teddy could be just the dog for you. This two-year-old Shih Tzu Poodle Crossbreed is on the lookout for a calm, adult-only home with no visiting children, where he can relax and build a strong bond with his new people. Teddy would love a quiet household with no more than two adults and a secure garden where he can play and potter about. Homes that are open-plan are not suitable as he needs his own area to retreat to when things get a bit much—a separate room, pen or cosy corner with his crate and enrichment. Although Teddy is currently living alongside a female dog, he is likely to be happiest as the only dog in the home. However, we are open to discussing the right match in the right set-up. He cannot live with cats or small furries, he needs to be in a home away from busy roads.

Is Teddy right for you?

Teddy is clever, curious character. He knows his 'sit', 'down' and 'paw', is housetrained and has good recall. He adores sniffing and exploring on his walks and playing with his toys or enjoying a game of fetch in the garden. Teddy travels well but may need encouragement to get into the car. He has a playful, independent nature and loves fun enrichment and chews, though these should be given in his own space. Teddy must be muzzled for vet and grooming visits and he has responded well to this when taken slowly and with a patient, positive approach. When it comes to affection, Teddy enjoys fuss but dislikes being over-handled, particularly around his head and he will move away once he has had enough. He prefers people who let him come to them in his own time, and if you do, he is often keen to make friends. Teddy has met dogs out on walks with ease and enjoyed some off-lead time with dog friends. He can be unsure around larger dogs initially and with the right introductions he could coexist peacefully. Toys should be kept away while he settles and shared playtime is best kept to outdoor sessions only. Once settled in his new home he can be left alone for a couple of hours and benefits from a night-time routine, including a night light. To help Teddy make a smooth transition, his new family must be willing to visit the centre multiple times and commit to a short home trial, supported by our training team. Teddy is a bright, engaging dog who will thrive with the right people—happy to take things at his pace, appreciate his independent spirit, and support him with positive training and understanding. If you are ready to offer a calm home filled with patience, enrichment and fun, Teddy is ready to meet you.
