Are you right for Mama?

Mama is a 4 year old Staffie cross. She is looking for a home where she can be the only pet. When Mama came into us she was very shy and nervous around handling and sudden movements, she has grown in confidence and blossoms as she gets to know you. To help her settle into her new home she is looking for an adult only home that can appreciate her nervous nature and the need to take things at her pace. Mama will need a private garden so she has a safe space for toileting and play while she is growing in confidence in her new home, she will also need to be kept on lead when out on walks.

Is Mama right for you?

Mama came into us having spent time in a pound, we have little to no background information on her but given this we can presume she has been through some difficult times, which can account for her nervous nature and being worried at times by handling and sudden movements/noises. She finds invasive/close handling worrying and so will need to be muzzled for veterinary examinations. She has really grown in confidence in the short time she has been with us and once she knows she can trust you, you start to see her cheeky, playful side. Mama loves playing with toys, especially her hedgehog teddy which she will cuddle up with in her bed. We are not sure if she was given access to toys previously but due to her love of them, any toys should be swapped with her not taken from her to avoid her developing any guarding behaviours. Our training and behaviour team can offer advice on how best to help her build her confidence and how to use swap games to avoid any guarding behaviour escalating in the home. Mama is looking for a family who can be patient with her and understand that given her past she will need to build bonds in her own time, she will make a truly wonderful companion. Please note that you won’t be applying for a specific dog, but you can tell us what type of dog you’re looking for. You can also add up to four favourites to your application to give us an idea of the dogs you like, so we can consider you for similar dogs. Once you’ve submitted your application, we can’t change or update your favourites. Adding a dog to your application is not a reservation but a guide for us to find you a match.
