Are you right for Rodney?

Rodney needs a home where he can be the only pet. Although friendly with other dogs when walking, he lacks social skills and can be selective about the company. He is house trained, can be left for a few hours by himself and can live with children over the age of 16. Rodney cannot live in a communal garden.

Is Rodney right for you?

Rodney is a whole lotta dog! He’s a brilliant boy with personality by the bucketload but he’s looking for a quiet home with a family that are willing to put some work in with him. Rod finds a lots of things in life to be very exciting and easily becomes over stimulated which results in him grabbing onto his owner’s clothing. His previous owner has been following lots of advice and has seen big improvements in the last few months but are unable to give him as much support as he needs. Rodney is fantastic if encouraged to stay calm and focused on his handler, and he does very well with routine and lots of mental stimulation. Allowing him to approach people first rather than have them be excited towards him is also helpful, and Rodney seems to prefer this. He will settle nicely into having a fuss if he’s kept calm. Rodney likes other dogs although he can be rather intense when introducing himself, before launching into play! We know he has been anxious when meeting dogs before, so any interactions in his new home will need to be controlled and with appropriate dogs that won’t get him hyped up. He loves to play with his toys but it’s best to discourage any kind of tugging games and just allow him to play by himself. Rodney is a clever chap who knows lots of tricks such as paw, down and wait, and some further mental games in his new home would be beneficial. This big boy has so much potential with a family that has the time to give to him.
