Are you right for Oreo?

Oreo is a sweet but sensitive boy. He needs to live in an adult only home as he has growled at certain people, and has shown guarding behaviours. People who are also experienced with these behaviours would be ideal. Once Oreo knows you and is comfortable he is a super friendly boy and loves his fuss, he just needs the time to settle. We have only seen these behaviours when in the kennel environment, so I do think he was showing the aggression because he was stressed and unhappy, but now he’s in foster he is so much happier and doing really well. Oreo needs to be the only dog in the home as he isn’t a fan of sharing his space and doesn’t enjoy dogs in his face. Some dogs he will happily say hi to, this is normally females, but others he will growl at and has snapped. He can have walking friends out and about but needs his space indoors. Oreo has guarded food in the past so his new family would need to feed him in a separate area where he feels safe and comfortable, and he has also shown slight guarding behaviours when people are coming in and out of rooms. But that was only seen when in the centre, this hasn’t been seen in foster. Oreo can be left for a few hours with no issues, but this needs to be built up slowly and only once settled in his new home. Oreo does enjoy going out for his walks, but he is a little on the chonky side so can’t walk too far. However, he does need to lose this weight so shorter walks but more regularly would suit him well. Oreo isn’t a fan of the vets, he has snapped when approached in the vet room so for precautions he does get muzzled. He is very good boy at having his muzzle put on. Oreo travels really well in the car, loves his naps on the sofa and loves attention from his favourite people.

Is Oreo right for you?

Oreo would suit a home that is quiet and doesn't have too many people visiting, where he can have time to get settled and have all the cuddles and attention. He likes his little strolls so would need people who are happy to take him out and about to see the world. When in the right home I do think he will really flourish and come out of his shell, he just isn't enjoying all the change and it struggling to feel comfortable.
