Vernon is a handsome young German Shepherd looking for a patient and understanding family who can help him continue building his confidence. He is super loyal to the people he knows and loves being close to them, but he can be a little wary of new people and unfamiliar situations at first. Vernon will need his new family to take introductions slowly and allow him to form relationships at his own pace. Once he feels comfortable, he enjoys affection and cuddles and will happily settle beside his favourite people.
Vernon currently lives with his real dog dad, but his size, confidence and enthusiasm have simply become a little too much for him. For this reason, Vernon is looking for a home where he can be the only dog and enjoy the undivided attention of his new family. He will also need a home without cats or other small animals due to his strong chase instinct.
Vernon is looking for a home in a quieter, rural location where he will have access to his own secure garden to explore and enjoy. He could potentially live with secondary school aged children who understand that he may need space while settling in, although he has not previously lived with children.
Vernon has been left for short periods in a crate and has settled well, but any time alone should be introduced gradually as he becomes comfortable in his new home. His adopters will need to continue his socialisation and confidence building using positive and gentle training methods.

Vernon is a loving and devoted boy who enjoys running around a large garden before relaxing close to his family. He may not rush over to greet new people straight away, but with time, patience and reassurance, his affectionate side begins to shine through.
At home, Vernon settles easily and loves being near the people he trusts. He does not travel regularly, but when he does, he is happy to lie quietly on the back seat while secured with a harness. His ideal family will appreciate his sensitive nature and give him the time he needs to feel safe, while helping him discover that new people, places and experiences can be positive.
With a calm home, plenty of space and a family ready for a new best friend, Vernon has the potential to become an incredibly loyal and faithful boy.

In our form you can tell us all about your home, your lifestyle and the kind of dogs you’re interested in. You won’t be applying for a specific dog, but you can add favourites to give us an idea of the dogs you like. We’ll use this information to find a great match for you.

We’ll also ask you to select a rehoming centre. The team at this centre will look after your application and assess you against all suitable dogs in their care. This doesn’t have to be your nearest centre, but you will need to travel there within a few days once we’ve found...

We’ll review your application
We’ll review your application against the dogs in our care at your chosen centre. If we think we have the right dog for you, we’ll be in touch as soon as possible. If we don’t hear back from you, we will close your application for now, and you can reapply when you’re ready.

Some of the dogs in our care will need to meet potential owners several times to get to know one another. This lets us see you’re compatible and gives you the chance to build a bond before making a commitment to give them a new home. By taking some time at the beginning to make sure everyone’s comfortable, an adoption is more likely to be successful.
We may also arrange a home visit with you, to see how your house will be set up and check that the garden (if you have one) is secure. This may not be necessary, though, especially if you’ve adopted from us before. Where you already have dogs, we may accept a reference from your vet as an alternative.

If we haven’t found the right match, we’ll continue the search together
If we haven’t found the right dog for you within three months, we’ll let you know your application is closed. We’ll invite you to apply again so we have up-to-date information about you, and we’ll keep looking.

We’ll support you to embark on a new life with your dog
When we’ve matched you with a dog, we’ll help you welcome them to your home. After adoption we’ll keep in touch to see how you and the dog are doing. If you need any advice or support, we’re just a phone call away.
