Are you right for Bear?

Bear is an absolutley handsome German Shepherd who has come to us through no fault of his own and is ready to find his happy ever after. Bear is looking for a home who are GSD savvy and comfortable and confident with large dogs. Although no mallice at all, due to Bear's size, any youngsters in the house would need to be 16+. Bear thinks he is a tiny dog and wants to sit on your lap! He also loves to cuddle on the sofa so a large sofa and being allowed to do so would be appreciated in his new home. Bear can get over excited at times and can jump up and be mouthy, we are working on him keeping 4 paws on the floor when he is excited, and on channelling his mouthy (gentle, but not ideal!) tendancies into appropriate channels with his toys. His new family will need to continue this training, as although he is just trying to show his affection, he is a very big dog and we do not encourage this, he has started to lay down and want a belly/chest scratch instead, which is extremley cute! Bear can be dog social with the right matches but would be best suited to being the only dog in his new home but with his owners keeping up his socalisation with appropariate canine friends, he especially like the lady dogs!

Is Bear right for you?

Bear is 5 years old and has stolen the hearts of everyone that he has met here! He is very big for his breed and a striking chap. Bear is currently in foster and doing amazing. He sleeps through the night on the fosterers bedroom floor, is 100% house trained and loves to cuddle and entertain himself with his toys. He walks beautifully on the lead with a harness and wants to sniff everything, his recall is 50/50 as he likes to do his own thing and sniff but does keep a beady eye on his fosterers and follow if he thinks they're heading away! Bear likes other dogs but needs the right matches to play with, especially due to his size and his puppy like playstyle. He hasn't like any male dogs that we have introdcued him to here but loves the ladies! Bear is going to need to be given time to settle into his new home as he finds change a little bit unsettling, but it doesn't take him too long. The same applies to time alone, this will need to be slowly built up over time as he gets used to his new routines and settles, as he does like to be with us humans but is doing very well settling after a walk and with some enrichment, he will then just nap. Bear travels well in the car and is overall a super good boy, he is going to make the absolute bestest friend for the right home.
