Are you right for Astrid?

Astrid is looking for a quiet, calm, home with minimal visitors so she can feel settled and relaxed in her space. She would like lovely walks in low people and dog populated areas so that she can enjoy her walks in peace. Her owners will need to be calm and patient and allow her time to settle and feel comfortable. She will benefit from having lots of interesting enrichment activities in the home to keep her clever brain busy! Astrid will need a fairly predictable routine so that she feels secure in her day to day activities. She would benefit from experienced dog owners who are willing to engage in lots of positive training with her to help build her confidence. She will need her own secure garden and needs to be the only pet in the home. Astrid really enjoys the company of her humans and would like them to be at home a lot when she first comes home. Her leaving time will need to be built up gradually in a positive way once she has settled. Astrid is currently on a special diet for her skin which wills once she goes home. Astrid can manage short trips in the car but can struggle on longer journeys. She will need visits from our behaviour team once she goes home so adopters will need to live within 90 minutes driving distance from the Canterbury Rehoming Centre and she will need to meet her adopters multiple times before going home to build a strong bond with her new adopters so please bear this in mind prior to applying for her. If you rent your property, please have written permission from your landlord ready once you have submitted your application to avoid delays, as it will be required if you are shortlisted.

Is Astrid right for you?

Just under 3 years old, beautiful and sensitive Astrid the Dobermann hasn't had the best start in life. Sadly, Astrid has had her ears cropped which is illegal in the UK and we absolutely do not condone it. Astrid finds meeting strangers quite worrying, so she does like to take things slowly and build a bond before trusting people. Once she gets to know you she is a playful and bouncy girl who loves to have a cuddle. Astrid explores new places carefully and can become worried by lots of people being around. She loves food, treats and absolutely adores enrichment activities like lick mats and kongs. She is a clever girl and really enjoys training. She knows lots of commands already and has the potential to learn lots more! Astrid doesn't enjoy spending time with other dogs as she becomes very worried. She will make a loyal, sweet and playful addition to your family. You can see more photos and videos of Astrid and all the other dogs in our care on our Instagram account @DogsTrust_Canterbury
