Are you right for Bagel?

We are seeking a special home for Bagel, ideally a calm household with active owners who have prior experience with dogs, particularly Malinois or working breeds. To ensure Bagel's well-being and happiness, adopters will need to have the time and dedication to provide him with ample physical exercise and mental stimulation both indoors and outdoors. As he is a lively young dog, Bagel would thrive in an adult-only home where owners can teach him basic commands and manners through positive reinforcement. Initially, he should be the only pet in the household to help him settle, but he would benefit from interactions with other dogs for socialisation. Bagel cannot live with cats or small animals and requires a secure yard with at least 6-foot high, solid fences as he is very agile! While he is house-trained, a gentle reminder may be necessary in his new home. Bagel enjoys company and would appreciate a gradual and positive introduction to being alone once he feels comfortable in his new home. Bagel will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home to build a strong bond so please bear this in mind when applying. He will need visits from our behaviour team once he goes home so adopters will need to live within 90 minutes driving distance from the Canterbury Rehoming Centre so please bear this in mind prior to applying for him. If you rent your property, please have written permission from your landlord ready once you have submitted your application to avoid delays, as it will be required early on in the rehoming process if you are shortlisted.

Is Bagel right for you?

18 month old Bagel embodies the characteristics of a typical young Malinois: highly active, extremely playful, and exceptionally intelligent! To ensure his well-being and growth into adulthood, he requires a lifestyle that matches his energy levels and intellect. He’s still a very young boy and due to his breed he needs a lot of input. This includes a moderate amount of daily physical exercise but also mental stimulation and enrichment too because if this boy doesn’t use his brain, he will likely get frustrated and bored. He loves being on the go, loves having something to do and is always ready, willing and keen for his next adventure with you! Bagel is a quick learner who excels in training, showing great focus and responsiveness. Training him with positive reinforcement and rewards will be a delightful experience. Bagel delights in playing with toys, especially balls, and is improving in sharing and surrendering toys during interactions. He has good manners during meal times and takes treats gently, always ready to sit for a tasty treat. Bagel is a remarkable young dog with immense potential. With proper guidance and training in an active home that have time to give him everything he needs to thrive he will repay you 10 fold with his loyalty, devotion and dedication to being your best buddy in the world!
