Could you be Bertie’s best buddy?

Animal welfare experts are appealing for a home for this beautiful boy called Bertie, the 5 year old Husky cross, based at Dogs Trust in West Calder, Livingston.

After being at the centre for a while, Bertie is hoping that he will be able to find his special someone just in time for summer so he can spend the warm months in his forever home, playing in the garden and having lovely outdoors walks in the sunshine.

Bertie is at his happiest when playing with his toys. Whether he is having fun with his soft fluffy toys, tennis ball, or Kong; Bertie will be bubby, smiley and in a world of his own. He would play all day if he could.  Bertie would love a home with good outdoor space so he can enjoy time in the garden, having a game of fetch or relaxing in the shade.

Going on fun walks is another one of Bertie’s favourite things to do, he loves being active and gets a lot of joy and stimulation from being able to explore and investigate new sights and smells. Bertie will thrive in an active home and would love someone who will exercise and play games with him, maybe even teaching him new tricks and commands. This lovely lad prefers to be walked in quiet areas away from other dogs and people, this way he can fully relax and enjoy one on one time with his new family.

A potential new owner for Bertie will need to have a few visits to the centre to get to know him. He can take a little time to build up trust with new people and a slow approach will be best for this boy.  A happy friendship can be built by slowly building up the time spent together and then taking him out on regular walks. After this, he will like if you throw his soft toys for him to catch and he will begin to build up confidence gradually. He is best suited to sensible and patient owners and a home with few visitors.

Bertie is looking for an adult only home where he can also be the only pet in the home; he would prefer his new owners love and attention all to himself. He is on the lookout for someone who can be at home for most of the day to help him settle and adapt to his new environment. An owner who has experience with active type breeds before would be perfect for this bouncy boy.  Bertie can travel well in the car and would enjoy an adventure to a quiet beach or lake.  Bertie likes swimming and would love a dip in the cool water during extra sunny days.
