Get on the foster train: training evenings

When: The training events will run from 6-8pm on:

• Tuesday 6th October - Learn more about nervousness in dogs
• Tuesday 27th October - Dogs with mouthy manners
• Tuesday 1st December – Separation anxiety and how to help.

Where: Dogs Trust West Calder Rehoming Centre in West Lothian.

What will be covered?

If you are interested in finding out more about being a foster carer, have fostered in the past, or are currently fostering for Dogs Trust, these training evenings will help build confidence, gain a deeper understanding of dogs and their behaviour, and increase knowledge of caring for a rescue dog in your home.

Dave Martin, Dogs Trust West Calder Welfare Manager, and Ewan Robertson, Dogs Trust West Calder Operations Manager, will provide advice and give practical demonstrations on common behaviours that rescue dogs might need a helping hand to overcome. Dave and Ewan are highly skilled trainers, who have decades of experience working with rescue dogs, helping them on their journey to being adopted.

Refreshments will be available, and the charity’s foster team will be on hand to answer any further questions.

Why we need you

With a centre rebuild currently underway at Dogs Trust West Calder, the role of foster carers has never been more vital.

Foster carers open their homes to dogs on a temporary basis until they are matched with their forever families, whether that's for a few days or a few months. Fostering is a hugely rewarding experience, allowing individuals or families to provide a loving home for a dog who may have had a difficult start in life. Fostering offers all the joys of having a dog without the long-term commitment, and with the flexibility to take a break whenever needed.

When you foster a Dogs Trust dog, you have the support of the training and fostering team every step of the way. All costs are also covered by Dogs Trust, including food, bedding and vet treatment.
