Finding an alternative

I'm unwell and struggling to cope

If you have an ongoing illness and are finding it tough to meet your dog’s needs for exercise, mental stimulation or veterinary care, options are available.

You could ask a trusted friend to help you with dog walking and vet visits, or could employ a dog walker, if that’s feasible.

The Cinnamon Trust may be able to help if you're elderly or terminally ill.

The Cinnamon Trust

National charity The Cinnamon Trust links volunteers with pet owners who are elderly or terminally ill. The volunteers help with things like walking, feeding pets and vet visits, so owners and pets can stay together for as long as possible.

This didn't work for me, what's next?

We know this is a tough decision, and we won’t judge you for needing to find your dog a new home. Sometimes, asking us for help is the most responsible thing you can do for your dog.

We will do everything we can but in some circumstances, we won’t be able to take a dog. If that’s the case, we’ll be honest with you about it. We'll always offer advice and help you make alternative arrangements if we can.

If you need to return a dog you've rehomed from us please see our post-adoption support advice for next steps.
