Dog lover donates over 1,000 hours of her time to helping dogs find forever home
A dog-loving volunteer has given up over 1,000 hours of her time to help care for dogs at Dogs Trust Snetterton whilst they wait for their forever homes.
Treloar Sheppard heads to the Dogs Trust rehoming centre twice a week to do everything from cleaning out kennels to exercising the dogs and taking some of them for long off site walks.
Treloar, who has volunteered at the rehoming centre for the last five years, says:
“I have always had a passion for dogs and as soon as I retired I knew I wanted to help dogs who had found themselves without a family of their own.
“I love what I do and I really feel part of the team, which is lovely. The dogs are looked after so well and to be able to play my part in caring for them whilst they wait to find their new homes is wonderful. I can’t imagine a time when I won’t volunteer and I would recommend it to anyone who has some spare time and a love of dogs.”
Jessica Taylor-Balls, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Dogs Trust Snetterton, says:
“Treloar is a real asset to our team and we are so grateful to her for everything she has done for us and the dogs.
“We have 75 volunteers at the moment and they are vital to helping us make sure our dogs get everything they need whilst they are with us. At any one time we can be looking after 80 dogs so that is miles and miles of dog walking, tonnes of laundry and lots of kennels to be cleaned out, so every hour given by our volunteers is a huge help.
“We are always updating our website with new volunteer vacancies, including positions for kennel assistants and events volunteers so if you’d like to donate an hour or days of your time, we’d love to hear from you.”
