Finding an alternative

I'm being made homeless

If your housing situation is changing – whether through choice or circumstance – that might affect your ability to look after your dog. Help is available, depending on your circumstances and location.

If you’re experiencing a housing crisis, or are about to be made homeless, then we may be able to assist. Through our Hope Project, we support both dog owners and accommodation providers, so that owners can stay together with their faithful friend. This includes helping with veterinary costs.

If you’re escaping from domestic abuse and will be moving to emergency accommodation where they don’t accept pets, our Freedom Project may be able to help. Through the project, our fosterers will care for your dog temporarily while you find somewhere permanent to stay.

Searching for a pet-friendly rental? Our Lets with Pets site will help you to find a place to live with your pooch.

Last of all, if you’re downsizing and moving into an apartment, our guide on getting a dog when you live in a flat will walk you through all the practicalities. Dogs can be happy living in a smaller space, with some preparation and planning.

This didn't work for me, what's next?

We know this is a tough decision, and we won’t judge you for needing to find your dog a new home. Sometimes, asking us for help is the most responsible thing you can do for your dog.

We will do everything we can but in some circumstances, we won’t be able to take a dog. If that’s the case, we’ll be honest with you about it. We'll always offer advice and help you make alternative arrangements if we can.

If you need to return a dog you've rehomed from us please see our post-adoption support advice for next steps.
