Are you right for Dougal?

Dougal is a lively and very sweet 16 month old Golden Retriever cross Poodle who is looking for a forever home through no fault of his own. Dougal loves to get out on long walks and currently has a dog walker a few times a week. He can pull on the lead, so would benefit from on-going loose leash training. He gets excited when he goes out for his walks, he will pull towards other dogs and this is due to him wanting to play and engage with them, with regular long walks and correct socialisation this should reduce. He is house trained and can be left for an hour or two once he has had time to settle in-to his new home. Dougal can be a little restless while traveling in the car and this should be built up over time, positive journeys to new places could help created calmer travelling experience. Dougal knows some basic commands and is eager to learn. Dougal will require regular grooming to ensure his coat stays in the best condition.

Is Dougal right for you?

Dougal is a friendly lad who is happy to play with soft toys, he loves to de-stuff them, he also enjoys chasing balls in the garden, he can be shy of new situations as he hasn’t had much experience away from his home. He hasn’t socialised with many people outside of his home, so can appear apprehensive when meeting new people, adopters will need to give him the space and time to reflect on new encounters and allow him time to become more comfortable as things become familiar. Dougal has had regular visiting children, however he isn’t quite aware of his size and can be a little too bouncy around them. Dougal will flourish given the guidance he needs. Dougal can be startled by loud noises, so we feel he would prefer a rural / semi rural location for his walks and exercise. Dougal would love to keep busy given mental stimulation such as enrichment games, kongs and licki mats. He loves treats and takes them nicely. He is an exceptionally lovely lad and will be your best friend for life, who'll enjoy many adventures as his confidence grows.
