Are you right for George?

Handsome George is a one-year-old Retriever cross looking for a working dog home full of compassion and patience. George arrived in our care as a stray and did not have the best of starts. George has a great drive for working and his energy levels are limitless! George would prefer to be the only dog in his new home. We have no history of him living with any cats, small furries, or livestock. Time left alone in the home is best built up slowly and he may need help with his housetraining using positive reward training. Walks from the door would be beneficial whilst George learns to be comfortable getting in the car. Someone willing to put the time in with George will be rewarded with a fun and goofy personality, he will make you laugh every day with his antics! George may require his potential adopters to come and meet him a few times prior to adoption.

Is George right for you?

George is loads of fun to spend time with. We feel he would cope best with someone able to satisfy his working drive and who has the time to continuously train and work with George so he won’t get bored. He likes to play with toys, and he prefers a selection of toys to play with so he can choose to drop one so you can throw another one. He quite likes a football, but any toy will do! He loves his food and treats. He’s a clever lad who would do well with learning more tricks with positive reward training. He loves to hear that he is a ‘good boy’ and loves reassurance. At the moment George will choose to play over initiating a fuss but we are seeing more affection from George with his regular carers and this has been very heartwarming to see him grow! George is happy to have his hair-brushed and have a bath with trusted people. George has made quite a few dog friends at the center, some he may choose to avoid but others he is happy to say hello and a play with. Scent games, sniffing out hidden treats is a good way to build confidence. – Building a nice, positive association with new things and places. With time, patience, and understanding George will get there and make a wonderful addition to someone’s life.
