Sweet Sophia is a one-year-old Poodle cross looking for a calm and understanding home where she can gently discover the world at her own pace. Having had a very sheltered start to life, she will need patient adopters who are happy to take things slowly, beginning with building her confidence in the home and garden before introducing her to new experiences. A secure garden is essential for Sophia, giving her a safe space to explore, learn to housetrain and begin developing her courage before walks are introduced gradually over time. She will need to live in a quieter residential or rural setting and would benefit from low visitor levels initially while she settles in. Sophia could happily share her home with another calm, friendly dog following a successful introduction, and she can live with sensible secondary school-aged children who understand her need for space. Her adopters will also need to gradually build up her tolerance to being left alone, as well as gently introduce her to things like traffic and car travel once she feels secure.

Sophia is a gentle and curious little character who is already showing glimpses of the lovely companion she will become. She enjoys her food and loves enrichment activities, happily engaging with toys and having a good chew as she relaxes in her environment. While she’s currently unsure about fuss just yet, as her confidence grows she may choose to come closer, perhaps even curling up on a lap when she feels safe and secure. Sophia has a soft, playful nature and a quiet charm that makes every small step forward feel incredibly rewarding. With the right guidance and encouragement, she has all the potential to blossom into a lovely companion, and watching her confidence grow and her personality shine will be a truly special journey for her future family.

If we’ve found a dog who seems right for you, we’ll invite you to come and meet them at the rehoming centre.

Some of the dogs in our care will need to meet potential owners several times to get to know one another. This lets us see you’re compatible and gives you the chance to build a bond before making a commitment to give them a new home. By taking some time at the beginning to make sure everyone’s comfortable, an adoption is more likely to be successful.

We may also arrange a home visit with you, to see how your house will be set up and check that the garden (if you have one) is secure. This may not be necessary, though, especially if you’ve adopted from us before. Where you already have dogs, we may accept a reference from your vet as an alternative.

If we haven’t found the right match, we’ll continue the search together

If we haven’t found the right dog for you within three months, we’ll let you know your application is closed. We’ll invite you to apply again so we have up-to-date information about you, and we’ll keep looking.

We’ll support you to embark on a new life with your dog

When we’ve matched you with a dog, we’ll help you welcome them to your home. After adoption we’ll keep in touch to see how you and the dog are doing. If you need any advice or support, we’re just a phone call away.
