Our rehoming centres are not open for public browsing but you can still make an appointment to adopt or bring a dog to us. We’ve set up new processes which include social distancing measures to help keep staff, visitors and adopters safe. We’re now matching dogs with their new homes virtually and delivering dogs contact-free. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can now meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

River is a fantastically friendly 3 year old Akita who has had quite a rollercoaster ride recently! He came to us from a less than ideal living situation, but quickly adapted and took it all in his stride. He is very strong and full of energy, and even having dodgy knees doesn't hold him back! He would definitely benefit from some basic training as when he wants to go and investigate something, you're certainly going with him! He has been a big hit with his carers and his confidence has improved greatly with them.

Type of home needed

River gets along fairly well with other dogs, but some find his strength and exuberance a bit much, and we feel he's better as the only pet, at least whilst he finds his way in the world. He hasn't been used to living inside so may have an accident or two, but other dogs we have had from the same situation have done wonderfully at home. River is better suited to a home where any children are of teen age, as he isn't used to being around kids and he's a big lad. He recently had xrays which showed him to have a problem with his patellas. he is currently on anti inflammatories for this, and there is a chance that he may need surgery in the future.

If you would like to adopt River, please click "Come And Meet Me". Applications will close when we have found him a suitable home.

During these uncertain times, whilst we have had to unfortunately close our rehoming centres to the public, we’d like to reassure you that our wonderful staff will continue to provide the best possible care for our dogs. We are now able to start the search for new homes for a small number of our awesome dogs. This will really help us to support even more dogs who are most at risk of being put to sleep as a result of this crisis. We have been overwhelmed by your offers of support, and we wouldn’t be able to do any of this without your help. We’d like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to those individuals, who are doing everything they can to make sure our dogs get fed, walked, looked after and, as soon as we are able, finding them their forever home. We appreciate you thinking of us at what is a difficult time for all. If you would like to make a donation to support whilst we continue looking after the dogs in our care you can do so here...

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in River, who is based at Merseyside (Liverpool). Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. We can’t register interest for dogs who aren’t available for rehoming. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
