Our rehoming centres are not open for public browsing but you can still make an appointment to adopt or bring a dog to us. We’ve set up new processes which include social distancing measures to help keep staff, visitors and adopters safe. We’re now matching dogs with their new homes virtually and delivering dogs contact-free. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can now meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

I'm looking for a new home...

About Steel

2 to 5 Years

Steel loves his exercise and he is looking for a family to share that active lifestyle with, who will enjoy taking him for long walks across the courtyside. He would be a fabulous companion for a canicross runner. He also has a snuggly, affectionate side. He loves company, likes a fuss and will sprawl across you on the sofa. He enjoys showing you some tricks in exchange for nice tasty treats. He knows a sit, down, paw and a high-five. Steel will need gradual introductions if you would like him to meet other dogs. He can make friends, but like us humans, he is choosey with who his friends are. He is happy to travel in the car and he loves to play with his toys and do zoomies around his garden.

Type of home needed

Steel is looking for a fun, active home. He could live with children as young as eleven and could cope with a reasonably busy home environment, although walks will need to be in quiet, rural areas without lots of other dogs that he doesn't know passing. Until Steel is settled into his new home, adopters will need to be with him for most of the time and build up the time left gradually. Steel will need to be the only dog in the home and due to a high chase drive he will be looking for a home without cats or small furries.

During these uncertain times, whilst we have had to unfortunately close our rehoming centres to the public, we’d like to reassure you that our wonderful staff will continue to provide the best possible care for our dogs. We are now able to start the search for new homes for a small number of our awesome dogs. This will really help us to support even more dogs who are most at risk of being put to sleep as a result of this crisis. We have been overwhelmed by your offers of support, and we wouldn’t be able to do any of this without your help. We’d like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to those individuals, who are doing everything they can to make sure our dogs get fed, walked, looked after and, as soon as we are able, finding them their forever home. We appreciate you thinking of us at what is a difficult time for all. If you would like to make a donation to support whilst we continue looking after the dogs in our care you can do so here...

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Steel, who is based at Ilfracombe (Devon). Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. We can’t register interest for dogs who aren’t available for rehoming. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
