Covid-19 update: our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing, but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with measures in place to keep staff and adopters safe. Find out more about how national Covid-19 restrictions are affecting our rehoming procedures and other activity.

Our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with new processes in place to keep staff, visitors and adopters safe.

For dogs we know will thrive straight away in their new home, we’re matching them with their new homes virtually and delivering them contact-free. Current restrictions mean we can only facilitate adoptions local to our centres and not across Countries or anywhere there are travel restrictions. We’re not able to make appointments for dogs to meet their family before going home, but we can register interest to arrange appointments when restrictions ease.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

Bert is a 9-year-old Lurcher who has been through a lot over the past year or so. Don't let his age fool you, his is such a fun, loving lad who is full of beans and up for any adventure! He LOVES toys, especially squeaky ones, so his new home will need an endless supply for Bert to play with! He has a cheeky side, where he knows how to wiggle his way into your heart and get extra treaties off you. He has really been enjoying his training sessions here at the centre and is eager to learn more. He has made amazing progress with his dog socialisation here at the centre, so new owners will need to continue this once home.

Type of home needed

Bert is going to need a secure, private garden to run around in as he will be going home on an onlead in public disclaimer. Bert can be quite greedy around food, so his new home will need to have a place for him to go during human dinner time! He won't be able to live with cats or other dogs but can have dog friends out and about if introduced in the right way (our behaviour team can give you some guidance on this). He can live with children aged 14 and above. Bert would love a quieter household with owners who will let him have all the toys he desires. Owners who will be patient with him and that are willing to manage his socialisation with other dogs and take him out on adventures as he loves to explore. New owners should also be willing to work on his separation anxiety.

In these unprecedented circumstances, we're doing everything we can to continue our vital work caring for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs. If you'd like to help, please make a donation. Your support means so much, now more than ever.

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Bert, who is based at Harefield (West London). Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
