About Ginger

5 to 7 Years

Once Ginger knows and trusts people, she is very affectionate, she often spends time in a quiet office with her human pals having fuss and snuggles. She can be quite the lapdog, cute and scruffy looking! She has a playful side, where she loves to do zoomies and play fetch. Her favourite toy is a grunting pig and a squeaky ball. Ginger loves to go for walks if it is not raining! She can make doggy friends with suitable dogs, she prefers male dogs and as long as the dog is tollerant of her initial bark, she can be a playful girl, and or just happy to walk alongside. The time and locations of her walks will need careful consideration as she is unlikely to cope in dog or people-busy places. Ginger is a sensitive girl, she is fearful initially of people she does not know, and upon first view of an unknown person there is a strong possibility that she will bark and lunge towards them. Due to her history, it is a requirement that Ginger wears a muzzle and is kept on a lead when on walks, for her safety and the safety of others. The positive, reward-based approach we have taken with this training means she sees this as no different from having her harness and lead put on. We know she is going to become a great addition to a home but there will be challenges along the way, ones that we can prepare you and her for.

Type of home needed

Ginger has a tailored introduction programme to make meeting new people feel predictable and safe any adopter must be prepared to visit the centre multiple times. She will be looking for an adult only home, with a quiet environment, with a limited amount of visitors and quiet walks. Ginger has long history of being uncomfortable with men and therefore will be best suited in a female only environment. There is potential for her to live with another dog in the home, a smaller, male, tolerant dog (Ginger is boisterous in her playstyle) and a dog who does not mind sharing the attention. Ginger is looking for a home with a garden which is nice and secure. Experience with Terriers and nervous dogs would be helpful. Ginger's adopters will need to be dedicated and on-board with working with Ginger and our Training and Behaviour Team with the guidance, support and advice given. Her adopters will need to live within an hour of the Centre so that our Training Team can continue to offer support once Ginger has gone to her new home. Ginger has great potential to make a loving companion in the right setup.
