Our rehoming centres are not open for public browsing but you can still make an appointment to adopt or bring a dog to us. We’ve set up new processes which include social distancing measures to help keep staff, visitors and adopters safe. We’re now matching dogs with their new homes virtually and delivering dogs contact-free. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can now meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

Ernest is a handsome boy. He walks like a dream on a lead and loves just lazing around. Ernest takes a while to trust new people and is generally an independent dog but he does enjoy attention once he has a bond with you. He needs a patient and committed owner who will give him time to adjust.

Type of home needed

Ernest is looking for a nice quiet home where he can settle in at his own pace. He does need to be the only pet in his new home but he will walk nicely with other dogs at the park. He can be wary of new people, particularly men, and will need to meet prospective owners a few times to build a relationship before going home. Ernest needs a home with people over the age of 16 years old as he needs space when he has treats.

More about me

Ernest can be left for part of the day and loves to snuggle up on a comfy duvet. He will need to be muzzled and kept on a lead in public as he is an ex racer. Don't let this put you off, find out more information here https://tinyurl.com/y4bxr7t2 He needs direct access to his own private garden with a 6ft fence so that he has somewhere safe to play. He will enjoy quiet places in the home to have some time to himself if possible.

During these uncertain times, whilst we have had to unfortunately close our rehoming centres to the public, we’d like to reassure you that our wonderful staff will continue to provide the best possible care for our dogs. We are now able to start the search for new homes for a small number of our awesome dogs. This will really help us to support even more dogs who are most at risk of being put to sleep as a result of this crisis. We have been overwhelmed by your offers of support, and we wouldn’t be able to do any of this without your help. We’d like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to those individuals, who are doing everything they can to make sure our dogs get fed, walked, looked after and, as soon as we are able, finding them their forever home. We appreciate you thinking of us at what is a difficult time for all. If you would like to make a donation to support whilst we continue looking after the dogs in our care you can do so here...

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Ernest, who is based at Glasgow. Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. We can’t register interest for dogs who aren’t available for rehoming. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
