Covid-19 update: our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing, but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with measures in place to keep staff and adopters safe. Find out more about how national Covid-19 restrictions are affecting our rehoming procedures and other activity.

Our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with new processes in place to keep staff, visitors and adopters safe.

For dogs we know will thrive straight away in their new home, we’re matching them with their new homes virtually and delivering them contact-free. Current restrictions mean we can only facilitate adoptions local to our centres and not across Countries or anywhere there are travel restrictions. We’re not able to make appointments for dogs to meet their family before going home, but we can register interest to arrange appointments when restrictions ease.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

Gilbert is looking for a quiet forever home as he doesn't cope well with lots of visitors coming and going. Once he has built up a bond with you he is a very sweet little man but his new owner should remain hands off and let him take things at his own pace. He will need an owner who has experience with his breed that can continue further training with him using positive, reward based methods.

Type of home needed

Gilbert is looking for a home with adults of 18 years plus and no visiting children. He has bitten previously in situations where he was uncomfortable so his new owners should be committed to managing his environment to avoid putting him in similar circumstances. He will need to be kept on lead when in public places due to this but walks nicely and doesn't pull. He would benefit from having direct access to his own private garden with a 5ft fence to give him somewhere safe to run free and relax. He will need to be the only pet in the home.

More about me

Gilbert is used to having someone around for most of the day so would prefer company in his new home. The time he is left may be built up to an hour or two once he has had a little time to settle. Gilbert will make a great companion in the right home and given a time and space to build trust. Please only apply if your local lockdown restrictions allow you to travel to our centre. To apply to adopt Gilbert please click on the 'come and meet me' button below. Applications will close when we find a suitable match. We are only able to contact the successful applicant.

In these unprecedented circumstances, we're doing everything we can to continue our vital work caring for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs. If you'd like to help, please make a donation. Your support means so much, now more than ever.

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Gilbert, who is based at Glasgow. Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
