He gets worried when meeting new people or doing new things, but with patience and toys to play with he does begin to overcome his fears. This larger than life lad will require a lot of time and kindness whilst he gets used to his new brilliant way of life. He is a sensitive character who often tries to mask his worries by portraying himself as excitable or pushy. With the people who he knows well, Harvey really shows his soppier side and does enjoy fuss and affection. He loves playing with other dogs and is looking forward to settling into a calm, loving new home.
Type of home needed
Harvey will require a medium amount of physical exercise, and will also need a decent amount of mental stimulation to be provided by his family. He will need his own garden to mooch around in which must be secure as he has recently proven to be an accomplished escape artist. Further training will be needed in a few areas, including loose lead work and working on his introduction plan with new humans. Harvey has lived in a home before and tries his best to be housetrained. He can be left on his own for a few hours at a time as long as he is given things to occupy him and keep his mind occupied. A rural home will be needed for Harvey due to his worries in busy places although he can struggle to remain focused and relaxed when there are lots of livestock around. He would like to live somewhere without too many other dogs around, and where he will not have to experience much traffic.
More about me
Harvey is seeking an adult-only home where he will not have any children visit. He could live with another large sized dog who is tolerant and playful; He may benefit from a confident role model to help him learn about life. Harvey's home will need to be free of cats and other small furry pets. It will be crucial for Harvey's home to have minimal visitors, and Harvey must be provided with his own safe space to retreat to whenever he feels the need. Due to Harvey's worries and training needs, anyone looking to adopt him will need to be prepared for the adoption process to take a little longer than some of our other residents. It will be crucial for Harvey's adopters to meet him several times prior to his adoption day; During these visits, our team will go through Harvey's training programmes to help his family be set-up for success.
