Covid-19 update: our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing, but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with measures in place to keep staff and adopters safe. Find out more about how national Covid-19 restrictions are affecting our rehoming procedures and other activity.

Our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with new processes in place to keep staff, visitors and adopters safe.

For dogs we know will thrive straight away in their new home, we’re matching them with their new homes virtually and delivering them contact-free. Current restrictions mean we can only facilitate adoptions local to our centres and not across Countries or anywhere there are travel restrictions. We’re not able to make appointments for dogs to meet their family before going home, but we can register interest to arrange appointments when restrictions ease.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

To apply to rehome Austin, please click on the 'Come and Meet Me' button below. Applications will close when a suitable match has been found. PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID RESTRICTIONS WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO CONSIDER APPLICATIONS WITHIN A 1 HOUR DRIVE FROM OUR CENTRE (WR11 7RT). He's incredibly handsome and a very charismatic character, Austin is going to make a fabulous companion in the right new home. He can be a little aloof when first introduced to new people, but if tennis balls and some high-value treats are provided he soon comes around. Austin does enjoy bounding around after his favourite toys, but at present does not have the best fitness level to maintain this! He is very bright, but is also rather stubborn and does tend to do things as and when he wishes to.

Type of home needed

Austin would like a family who ideally have breed experience, or have at least done plenty of research on Akitas. He is quite an independent boy who prefers things to keep him occupied rather than fuss or lots of interaction. Austin has previously lived in a home and was housetrained; He has maintained this since staying with us. Austin is still a little unsure of lots of hands-on fuss, and is more sensitive around his neck area; He will require further confidence-building work in this area as well as with any formal vet handling.

More about me

Austin could potentially live with another dog, but will require a large-sized and tolerant companion. He could share his home with children of secondary school age and older, with visitors to his home being of around the same age. His time left alone ought to be no longer than 4 hours at the start, and he is more than happy to jump in the car for adventures further afield. Austin's home will need to be free of cats and other small furry pets.

In these unprecedented circumstances, we're doing everything we can to continue our vital work caring for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs. If you'd like to help, please make a donation. Your support means so much, now more than ever.

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Austin, who is based at Evesham (Worcestershire). Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
