Please note if you rent your property, you must be able to provide written permission from your landlord to keep a dog. We will not be able to reserve any dog until we have received this. If you are shortlisted for this dog please be aware a meet will be arranged at the centre within 48 hours and your new family member will be home with you within 7 days.

Type of home needed

Handsome boy Harley is a really lovely lad and is sure to be a wonderful addition to an Akita loving household! He is a happy boy around people and enjoys a fuss when he's in the mood, but being a typical Akita also likes his own space. Experience of Akitas or research into the breed would be beneficial although not essential. When Harley gets excited, he does tend to forget his size though and can jump up. Due to this, he could potentially live with teens over the age of 16 who are able to cope with a big bouncy boy!

More about me

7-year-old Harley is not a fan of other dogs so will need to be kept on lead and muzzled in public and due to this he will need his own private and secure garden to have plenty of off lead time to chill and do his own thing. Harley has spent some time living outside so will need his new family to be patient with him as he gets used to living in a home. Harley must be the only pet in the home and as he can be very strong on lead, he will need his new family to be able to handle him out on walks.

Thank you for your interest in rehoming a dog from our Basildon Rehoming Centre in Essex.

The first step to rehoming from us is to complete our online application form. We’ll review your application and if we think you could be a good match for the dog, we’ll give you a call to chat in more detail.

When reviewing applications, we're looking at how closely your lifestyle matches the needs of the dog. If we have lots of strong matches, then we'll start with the family that applied first.

We may arrange a virtual home check to find out more about you, your lifestyle, and the home you can offer. We may also make an appointment for you to come and meet a dog at the centre.

Start your online application now.

We aim to respond to all rehoming applications within five working days. If you have not heard from us within five working days, unfortunately you have been unsuccessful this time.
