Covid-19 update: our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing, but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with measures in place to keep staff and adopters safe. Find out more about how national Covid-19 restrictions are affecting our rehoming procedures and other activity.

Our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with new processes in place to keep staff, visitors and adopters safe.

For dogs we know will thrive straight away in their new home, we’re matching them with their new homes virtually and delivering them contact-free. Current restrictions mean we can only facilitate adoptions local to our centres and not across Countries or anywhere there are travel restrictions. We’re not able to make appointments for dogs to meet their family before going home, but we can register interest to arrange appointments when restrictions ease.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

Thor is a young, excitable boy who although is worried by new faces, can be won round with food and toys. This is particularly useful when trying to keep his 4 paws on the floor! He will need tough toys though as he does like them a little too much! He is looking for a quiet adult only home where people can dedicate the whole of their time for his training. He will require someone to be at home all the time not only to keep him company but also for his ongoing training.

Type of home needed

Thor would really benefit from owners who have successfully owned the breed before and who enjoy doing extra activities with their dogs i.e. search work or tracking. He is still a young boy who has spent most of his life living outdoors so will need housetraining. As he can be wary of new people, he needs to be walked in quiet areas where he can enjoy himself without the worry of people approaching him too quickly and a home where there isn't too many visitors. Thor is quite a complex character so please only apply if you can meet all his needs.

More about me

Thor will need to meet his new owners a few times before he goes home. This however, will require a gradual transition also so will involve multiple homevisits before he stays. Please note that Thor has some medical needs which though not affecting his lifestyle at the moment may mean that he needs medication and attention in the future, which adopters do need to be aware of.To apply to rehome me please click on the 'Come and Meet Me' button below. Applications will close when I have found a suitable match.

In these unprecedented circumstances, we're doing everything we can to continue our vital work caring for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs. If you'd like to help, please make a donation. Your support means so much, now more than ever.

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Thor, who is based at Darlington. Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
