Covid-19 update: our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing, but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with measures in place to keep staff and adopters safe. Find out more about how national Covid-19 restrictions are affecting our rehoming procedures and other activity.

Our rehoming centres aren’t open for public browsing but we’re still rehoming and taking in dogs, with new processes in place to keep staff, visitors and adopters safe.

For dogs we know will thrive straight away in their new home, we’re matching them with their new homes virtually and delivering them contact-free. Current restrictions mean we can only facilitate adoptions local to our centres and not across Countries or anywhere there are travel restrictions. We’re not able to make appointments for dogs to meet their family before going home, but we can register interest to arrange appointments when restrictions ease.

We’re currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of interest, with some dogs getting several hundred applications. Please bear with us, we’re doing everything we can to find our dogs their forever homes.

Breed:
Age:

Sex:

Likes

Dexter is a big lad with a fun personality and loves life. The main love in his life is food and he actively seeks it out. He will jump onto table tops and is in the process of learning his manners in the home. Dexter will need some training and his leavings hours built up very slowly so new owners will need to be around all of the day for him at least at first. He is very nearly housetrained as well.

Type of home needed

Dexter can live with another dog of similar size and could live with older teenagers over the age of 16 years (as he can be a bit mouthy and silly and also incredibly foodie). Dexter is looking for owners to have greyhound experience and they will love him, he's such a character though he will need continued training.

More about me

To adhere to the current government guidelines we are only able to rehome dogs within an hours travelling distance of the centre maximum .To apply to rehome me please click on the 'Come and Meet Me' button below. Applications will close when I have found a suitable home.

In these unprecedented circumstances, we're doing everything we can to continue our vital work caring for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs. If you'd like to help, please make a donation. Your support means so much, now more than ever.

How rehoming works

Thank you for your interest in Dexter, who is based at Darlington. Please note this is not a reservation on this dog. If you think you could be a good match give us a call on the number below

Our rehoming process is a bit different at the moment! We’re now matching dogs with their new families virtually and delivering dogs to their new homes, with social distancing measures in place to help keep staff and adopters safe. For dogs who need more time to get to know their new family, you can come and meet them at our rehoming centres by appointment. More info about how our new rehoming process works below.

When you rehome a dog, we’ll give you your welcome bag, which includes a new collar and lead, and our dog care handbook with microchip and insurance details. Plus, to help your new addition settle in we’ll give you a 2kg bag of Wainwright’s dry dog food, courtesy of the Pets at Home VIP Club, unless they have been fed on a different food for dietary or veterinary reasons.
