Are you right for Shadow?

Shadow is a 2-year-10-month-old Dachshund who is looking for a patient and understanding home to help him grow in confidence. He walks nicely on lead and tends to be quite independent when out and about, but he still benefits from a handler he can trust. Shadow is a little nervous and can be vocal when meeting people for the first time but once he becomes familiar with you, he will seek out attention and companionship. He is happy to be picked up, however he is sensitive around his collar area and may avoid contact there, so his new family will need to respect this and handle him gently. Shadow has had little experience being left alone, so any leaving time will need to be introduced gradually and with care.

Is Shadow right for you?

Shadow would be best suited to a calm home where he can be the only pet, as he can be unsure around other dogs and may growl if they come too close. Although he has previously lived with his brother and can walk alongside familiar dogs, he will need space and careful introductions in any social settings. He could live with children aged 15+ who understand and respect his boundaries. A home with a secure garden is essential for him to feel safe while exploring. Shadow will also need adopters who are committed to visiting him multiple times prior to rehoming, allowing him to build trust and form a strong bond. With patience and understanding, Shadow can open up and become a wonderful addition to any family.
