Dogs Trust’s oldest homeless hound hopes for stroke of luck on Friday 13th
Rehoming appeal for 17-year-old Jack Russell Terrier
As Friday 13th approaches staff at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury are hoping their oldest resident will defy the odds on the unluckiest day of the year and find his forever home.
Jack Russell Bobby has found himself being cared for by the charity at the grand old age of 17 after his owner sadly became ill and could no longer look after him.
Of almost 900 homeless hounds wishing for a stroke of luck this Friday, staff at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury are really hoping the day proves lucky for this Old Age Pooch (OAP) who is 119 in human years!
Thomas Livings, Assistant Manager at the Telford rehoming centre, says:
“Bobby is a little sweetheart and just needs a comfy retirement home where he can rest his paws. The average age of the canines Dogs Trust looks after is four but we’re hoping age doesn’t prove a barrier to Bobby having some good luck and finding love this Friday 13th.”
Bobby may be long in the tooth and whilst age has taken its toll on his pearly whites – having just two left - that doesn’t seem to have affected his appetite and arthritis hasn’t curbed his enthusiasm for a nice walk as Sue Thomas, the rehoming centre’s veterinary nurse found out!
“As soon as I saw him I just couldn’t resist his little face so I decided to foster him until he finds his forever home. When I first took him out for a walk I thought he’d just want to potter but instead he loved it and was happy to keep going!
“He is now living with my cat and two dogs and he gets on really well with all of them and he has really bonded with my husband!
“He is absolutely gorgeous and really deserves some good luck this Friday. It will be the happiest of goodbyes if he finds his forever home.”
Bobby is looking for an adult only home but he can potentially live with other calm dogs and cats. He is on daily medication which his owners will need to give him but veterinary costs will be covered by the charity’s Shared Adoption Scheme.
