The Shrewsbury Home from Home scheme
The Shrewsbury Home from Home scheme was launched 2 years ago and to celebrate its success and thank the lovely families who so kindly take our dogs into their homes on a temporary basis, we invited them to join us for a group walk followed by cake and hot drinks.
We met in Shrewsbury on a crisp and cold Autumn morning and walked the dogs along the river Severn through the beautiful Shrewsbury Quarry. It was the first time that the group had met each other and both the dogs and the humans had a lot of fun. To warm up after the chilly walk we retired to a local dog-friendly café where the staff made us feel very welcome and made a lot of fuss over the dogs giving them endless cuddles. Bowls of water were ready for the dogs upon arrival, along with tasty treats. Our foster families were also treated to delicious cakes and a warming beverage as our way of thanking them for all their hard work.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and all agreed that the event should be repeated again very soon. It was a fabulous opportunity to exchange foster stories and ideas and for the dogs to meet members of the public and raise awareness of the Home from Home scheme.
We are desperate for more foster families as so many of our dogs just aren’t cut out for kennels – these may be puppies, older dogs, dogs with injuries/medical conditions or sometimes we just run out of space. We are always looking for foster carers that are happy to take dogs into their home until we are able to find a forever home for them. All we ask is that you live within an hour of the rehoming centre and are willing and able to bring the dog in as and when required. Full support is provided and all costs are covered by Dogs Trust.
