Pounding pavements for homeless hounds
A dog-loving fundraiser is hoping to raise £2,000 for Dogs Trust by taking on the London Marathon.
Emily Vaughan, 34, from Worcester rehomed her dog Vince, a nine-year-old Terrier from Dogs Trust Evesham eight years ago and says that he is her ‘inspiration’ for wanting to take on this iconic challenge.
“Vince was found wandering the streets as a stray and was cared for by the team at Dogs trust Evesham until we gave him his forever home. He is more than just a pet, he has brought so much joy to my life and has helped us through some really sad times, too. But his presence brings us so much happiness and he’s really motivated me to keep going so I wanted to give something back to the charity which makes a real difference to the lives of the rescue dogs in their care.”
Emily will take on the iconic Virgin London Marathon, and is already on track to hit her fundraising goal of £2,000 which will all go towards looking after dogs being cared for at Dogs Trust, including those at the rehoming centre in Wickhamford.
“I absolutely love dogs and Vince is my best mate. I couldn’t imagine my life without him and I’m so grateful to Dogs Trust for allowing me to be his owner. Dogs Trust does such amazing work in ensuring that every dog they care for has the best possible experience whilst they wait to be adopted and I just wanted to do my bit to help.
“I enjoy keeping fit but have never done a marathon before so I’m really looking forward to the challenge and raising money for a great cause at the same time so dogs like Vince can find their happy forever homes too.”
Chris Slight, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Evesham, said:
“We are so grateful for people like Emily who challenge themselves in order to raise money for our homeless hounds. Not only will the money raised help us to continue looking after the dogs in our care, but the support and awareness they have generated to spread the word about Dogs Trust is invaluable. We’ll definitely be cheering her on on the day!”
Dogs Trust Evesham rehomes around 900 dogs each year and cares for around 130 at any one time.
