Frequently asked questions

What are the recent changes to Companion Club?

We have recently sent a letter or email to companions to explain some updates to the terms of conditions of the third-party insurance benefit of Companion Club. From 1 January 2026, our insurer will no longer offer cover for liability arising from any dishonest, fraudulent, criminal or malicious acts or the use of any dog for any trade or profession (not including personal service animals such as guide dogs which are still covered), as well as bodily injury to anyone who normally resides in a Companion’s home, such as family members or housemates. Find out more details about your Companion Club benefits

Why are these changes being made?

The changes to the terms and conditions are standard exclusions for most public liability insurance policies and have been added to this now because our previous contract – which has been in place for a long time – was undergoing a standard review. We want to reassure you that these new exclusions won’t affect most people, or most claims that we get through Companion Club.

Why didn’t I receive an email/letter?

We are contacting every companion for whom we have up to date details (either by letter or email), so that they can be updated as soon as possible. These should all be received by companions by mid January.

Why can’t I sign up to Companion Club?

We’re not currently accepting brand new Companion Club subscriptions whilst we complete our regular review of the benefits we offer.

Who can sign up?

Currently, anyone with an existing subscription can renew, as long as they do this before their subscription will end. A renewal reminder will be sent when it is time to renew. Anyone who has an exempted dog with an exemption certificate or anyone who is currently going through legal proceedings regarding a dog on the banned breeds list  can also apply, as third party insurance is a requirement for this.

I would like to renew my membership/ subscription, is this possible?

If you currently hold Companion Club subscription you can renew your policy via the link in your email renewal reminder (if you have provided us with your email address) or through your postal renewal form. For further details, read our commonly asked questions about renewals. If you do not have access to any of these, please call us on 020 7837 0006. Please note, if you do not renew before your subscription expires, you will not have continuous cover.

Why are you stopping new subscribers?

As a charity we regularly review the Companion Club benefits we offer to ensure it is suitable for the dog owners we support. Whilst we do this, we can’t accept any new subscribers.
